Early ‘Shield’ Karabagh

Description

One of the rarest Caucasian rugs you’ll ever see. An amazing and early Karabagh adorned by geometrical vines dark blue vines decorating all over the deep red field. Seven large so-called blue ‘Shield’ palmettes have been placed with ivory horns (or scorpions?) upon every shield. The field is also filled with stars and pentagons containing stylised dragons (‘S’ motifs). A stunning and unusual ivory border surrounds the field. The piece is in overall very good condition for its age.
