Rare Small Square Serapi SOLD

Description

This antique Persian Serapi carpet from the late 19th century is a truly rare find—not only for its beauty but for its unusually small, square size (190 x 190 cm), which is highly uncommon among Serapi rugs, typically woven in much larger formats.

Its rich madder red field is centered by a bold, geometric medallion, surrounded by powerful angular motifs and stylized floral forms in deep indigo, soft ivory, and shades of coral and sky blue. The vegetable dyes are deep and vibrant, still glowing with warmth and depth after more than a century.

The design has a striking, almost primitive charm—confident and unrefined in the best sense—reflecting an older, more tribal aesthetic. The wide border is filled with flowing vines and rosettes, framing the composition with rhythm and elegance.

This piece carries both the soul of the mountains and the refined taste of Persian craftsmanship. It’s a rare, collectible piece that brings history, character, and color into any space
