Jiroft Gabbeh
Description
Jiroft, in southeastern Iran, is an ancient cultural centre in the Kerman region, known for the remarkable archaeological discoveries of the Halil Rud civilisation. Its tribal weaving tradition is less commonly encountered than that of better-known Persian regions, making early Jiroft Gabbehs particularly interesting. The simplicity of this antique Jiroft Gabbeh is precisely what makes it so appealing. Woven entirely with undyed natural wool, its palette of beige and deep brown comes directly from the natural colours of the sheep’s fleece, without the use of dyes. The result is a wonderfully earthy Gabbeh with a strong connection to the pastoral traditions of the Jiroft area, in Kerman Province.
