Extraordinarily Fine Bakhtiari

Description

This masterpiece is undoubtedly one of the finest antique Bakhtiari carpets we have encountered. While most Bakhtiari pieces are tribal in nature, coarsely woven, asymmetric, and full of raw tribal character, this exceptional example was finely knotted in Shahrekord (Shahr-e-Kord), in the province of Chahar Mahal and Bakhtiari. Shahrekord’s proximity to Isfahan meant that a small number of local weavers absorbed the influence of the former Safavid capital, producing carpets with a refined “workshop taste.” This carpet is a rare instance of that influence, executed with the precision and elegance of an Isfahan of the same period but keeping a Bakhtiari DNA. The piece features a masterfully composed medallion design, with breathtaking colours that balance vibrancy and subtlety. The level of craftsmanship is truly remarkable, making this Bakhtiari a standout example of tribal weaving elevated by courtly sophistication.
