Kerman ‘Mashahir’ Masterpiece by Mohammad Ibn Jafar SOLD
Description
This Kerman Masterpiece was knotted in the early 1900s by Mohammad Ibn Jafar — also known as the “King of the Persian Carpet” — by far the most important and sought-after signature in Qajar-period (1794–1925) carpets. The design is the legendary ‘Mashahir’ , which means “celebrities” or “illustrious figures” in Persian. This Mashahir Kerman depicts emperors, kings, queens and prophets. Borders of calligraphic cartouches whisper the names of these “notables,” lending a sense of reverence and celebration to their memory. A similar specimen is part of the Carpet Museum of Iran, in Iran.
