Early Shirvan Masterpiece

This prayer rug of extraordinarily fine weave was knotted in the early 1800s in Shirvan. The spectacular yellow border is adorned by stylised birds alternating with flowers. In the ivory field, a blue lattice design enclosing colorful and large palmettes has been masterfully drawn under the Mihrab (prayer arch). The super fine weave, confidently proportioned design and magnificent colors are indications of an early date. The piece is in very good condition for its age.
